Performance Day #4

Art Center

Fri 25 may 2019 at 2 pm

This season the Art Centre is offering a programme on the theme of care. Also known as "caring" and "caregiving", this is a concept developed by feminist theorists in the English-speaking countries. What is the role of care in the neoliberal capitalist context and what are its implications for artists ?

For this 4th edition of the festival the Centre for Contemporary Art is calling on international artists and programmers to come up with new art forms for its theatre spaces. Artists are increasingly merging their visual codes with those of the theatre in an exploration of a fascinating in-between terrain. Fundamentally multidisciplinary, La Ferme du Buisson encourages practices that use performance as an active force for transgression of boundaries and categories.

Now a landmark in its field, this annual event sees leading figures from the performance scene taking over stages, dance studios, exhibition and screening rooms and outdoor spaces, as they investigate the interstices between the visual and the performing arts.

Collaborations with other institutions and festivals allow Performance Day to accommodate different points of view and produce works in purposefully hybrid formats: invisible plays, open-air strolls for all, improvised musical happenings, imaginary guided tours, handling of art objects and spatial explorations. At once poetic and political, the events come together as a unique, intense experience – a one-day concentrate in which hierarchies and genre boundaries melt away.
